Suncheon

Suncheon (순천) is an agricultural city and region of around 250,000 people. It's located in the southeastern corner of Jeollanam-do (전라남도 ), just over an hour south-east of Gwangju, and 40 minutes to the south is the southern coast line of South Korea. It's cheesy slogan is "the City of Beautiful People" and it's a good place to stay whilst further exploring the Namdo (남도) region of Korea, famed for its great coastline and islands, mountains, and rustic countryside. Suncheon is quickly emerging as the ecological capital of Korea. Suncheonman Bay and its surrounding area is a natural ecosystem that has remained almost completely untouched and is globally recognized for its ecological value. One of the main activities to do is to go to Suncheonman Bay to experience the wetlands and reed fields and Seonamsa and Songgwangsa to bask in the temples' thousand-year-old heritage. Other nearby stops include Nagan-eupseong, the village of thatched-roof houses dating back to the Joseon Dynasty, and a visit to an open set where a number of popular Korean movies and dramas were filmed. Some of these movie and film sets are still being used today and you can view pictures of them below. Visited In: October 2015 / School District Field Trip (っ◕‿◕)っ Pictures & Info
